New Year’s Day in Japan

Japanese have New Year’s day on January 1 to 3.

It doesn’t along the lunar calendar.

There are many things to do in the days.

Most of worker have vacation for 4 or 5 days.

First, They eat Osechi.

It is the traditional meal in new year’s day.

Every stuff have meaning.

For example, The black beans mean exorcism and Wishing to be able to work diligently

Herring roe mean prosperity of descendants because the number of offspring of herring has a large number.

Chestnut seems like gold. So this mean luck for money.

Second, they go to Hatsumode. It is the first shrine visit of the New Year.

People change their amulet and buy Omikuji

There are poem and fortune in that year on the paper.

In addition, The fortune has 12 grade.No one can know their grade until drawing.

People look forward to seeing their luck.

Fortunately Even if it’s not that day ,we can draw it.

So, if you are in japan, you should go to temple or shrine, then, get the fortune.
